
MV Leif Ericson was built in Fosen, Norway in 1991 and operated between Dover, England and Calais, France, prior to operation between Holyhead, Wales and Dublin, Ireland by Stena Lines shipping company. She sailed under the name of the Stena Challenger prior to being purchased by Marine Atlantic in 2001, to operate between Port aux Basques, N. L. and North Sydney, N. S. She was renamed the MV Leif Ericson in honour of the 1000th anniversary of the explorer Leif Ericson landing in the New World.

Most of our passenger services and entertainment areas are located on deck 5. This deck is accessible by elevators and stairways in the forward and after sections of the vessel leading from the vehicle decks. Enjoy feature length movies in the forward lounge, test your skills in the electronic game arcade or entertain the youngest passengers in the children’s play area located outside the cafeteria. There is a nursery / change room located near the after washrooms.

Passenger high back reclining seating is located forward of the main reception area on deck 5. A fully equipped first-aid room is located in the main reception area.
Passenger cabins are located on deck 6. Dormitory sleepers are located in the starboard side of deck 5 just forward of the cafeteria.
