Marine Atlantic’s annual scholarship program awards dependent children of employees or pensioners with funds for post-secondary education on the basis of merit.  The program provides for up to four $2,000 university entrance scholarships and four $1,000 trade school entrance scholarships.

Marine Atlantic also provides annually four scholarships of $1,500 each to students enrolled in either the Nautical Science or Marine Engineering programs at Memorial University’s Marine Institute.

Community investment

Marine Atlantic employees are actively involved in their communities.   To the extent fiscally responsible, the Corporation supports such employees and  not-for-profit organizations in areas surrounding its operations.

In 2005, the Corporation partnered with the port communities of Port aux Basques, Newfoundland and Labrador and North Sydney, Nova Scotia, to promote their towns to Marine Atlantic customers.  Together, the three organizations launched the “Gateway Brochure”.

The Corporation also partnered with towns to assist in key local events such as the 2005 Come Home Year Cruise, a major initiative of the Port aux Basques 2005 Come Home Year celebration, and the North Sydney 2005 Bartown Festival.
