Transportation of dangerous goods
Marine Atlantic is required to transport commodities identified under the Canada Shipping Act, the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code as `dangerous goods'.
The Acts and Code stipulate the number of passengers that may be carried on restricted sailings based up on the type and quantity of the commodity to be transported on the vessel..
Typical commodities classified as "dangerous goods " include household products such as paint, turpentine, batteries, propane for barbecues, javex, toilet bowl cleaner, glue, adhesives, fire extinguishers, oxygen for hospitals etc.
Marine Atlantic schedule restricted sailing crossings on a weekly basis. Carriers are encouraged to contact the terminal for more information on these crossings.
