Deck Department
Licensed Deck
These positions require a certificate of competency as issued by Transport Canada Marine Safety. The minimum requirement for deck positions is Watch keeping Mate Certificate.
Deck Hand
Requires Marine Emergency duties A1, B1, B2 along with a Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft (PSC); working knowledge of safe work practices and seamanship; physical ability to climb ladders, handle ship's lines and move heavy objects. Preference will be given to applicants holding Bridge Watchman Certificates or higher.
Engine Room
Licensed Engineering
These positions require a certificate of competency as issued by Transport Canada Marine Safety. The minimum requirement for engineering positions is Fourth Class Motor.
Engine Room Assistant
Requires Marine Emergency duties A1, B1, B2 along with a Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft (PSC). The applicant must have a proven mechanical ability. Preference will be given to applicants who have a fourth Class Marine Engineer Certificate, pre-sea engineering training, diesel engine mechanic training and experience with machinery.
Passenger Services
Passenger Services
The applicants require the ability to provide service in a courteous manner, physical stamina to perform a high volume of activity for prolonged periods of time, basic knowledge in food handling and sanitation practices, and the ability to read and comprehend written materials. Preference will be given to applicants with previous work experience in the hospitality industry, customer service training, food handling training. Requires Marine Emergency duties A1 & B1 and Marine Advanced First Aid training.
Galley
Preference will be given to applicants with any of the above Passenger Services experience or training along with a pre-employment or Marine Cooking course. Experience in full meal preparation for a kitchen or galley is also an asset. Requires Marine Emergency duties A1 & B1 and Marine Advanced First Aid training.
Terminals
Reservations/Ticketing
Qualifications:
The applicants must be computer literate, familiar with Microsoft Office, be proficient typists and be able to operate complex telephone equipment.
Assets:
Previous clerical experience, Secretarial course from a recognized institution, experience working in a call center, customer service experience and previous experience working with a computerized ticketing/Reservation system are considered assets. Candidates should live within commuting distance from the terminal.
Freight Handler Stevedore
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, High school education or equivalent. Good knowledge of vessel loading procedures. Good physical stamina & demonstrated ability to perform the physical requirements of the position. Must be able to deal with the general public in a professional manner displaying good customer service skills and a positive attitude. Knowledge of policies and government regulations concerning safety, security, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, WHMIS etc.
Chauffeur/Porter
The Chauffeur Porter drives the shuttle bus, assists passengers, checks baggage, sorts mail, picks up materials, has janitorial duties, etc.
Qualifications:High school education or equivalent. Must have Class Two (2) license in Newfoundland and a Class Four (4) in Nova Scotia. Candidates should live within commuting distance from the terminal.
