
Technical Manager
Reference Number: 09-58 1 Marine Atlantic Inc. is a federal Crown corporation that provides a vital ferry service link between Newfoundland & Labrador and mainland Canada. The Corporation in 2009 commenced a journey to transform the organization and redefine its operational and strategic capabilities and its customer focus. Reporting to the Director of Asset Management, this position will be responsible and accountable for providing technical direction and support within the company respecting the maintenance, practices and procedures regarding the safe and efficient operation of our fleet of passenger ferries. This position is accountable for the direction of major programs relating to modification, conversion and/or refits of vessels, ensuring quality, effectiveness and timely execution of work. With the assistance of the Technical Superintendents, the incumbent is responsible to ensure that our vessels are compliant with respect to Classification, Flag State, environmental and safety standards relative to passenger vessels.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have a First Class Marine Engineering certificate of competency with a minimum10 years experience as a Chief Engineer. A minimum of two (2) years experience shore based as a Technical Manager or Superintendent. Experience with hull and machinery insurance claims handling an asset. Marine Atlantic Inc is a unionized corporation and experience with union negotiations would be an asset.
A highly organized team player with above average communications and interpersonal skills he/she will also possess excellent project management and research skills. The ability to write detailed technical reports and a strong knowledge of computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft office applications is required.
