Eligibility
You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (as defined by Citizenship & Immigration Canada) to be eligible to apply for competitions. For shore-based positions you must be at least 16 years of age. For sea based positions you must be at least 17 years of age to hold a valid "Proficiency in Survival Craft Certificate."

Competition
Placement at Marine Atlantic is generally through a competition. The process used to select the most qualified and suitable candidate for the vacant position is based on the principle of merit. The factors considered include, but are not limited to, education, skills, knowledge, experience, past work performance and certification.
Your application/resume must clearly identify how you meet each of the stated qualifications.
Assessment Methods
A team is formed to assess the short-listed candidates. This team will be involved in some or all of the steps of the selection process. The team usually includes the position supervisor and/or manager, a Human Resources Department representative and others as required.
Marine Atlantic uses a combination of skills based evaluation and behavioral descriptive interviewing during the recruitment and selection process.
The information you submit on your application/resume determines if your skills and experience match our requirements. Skills based evaluation may also include testing and/or on site evaluation depending on the requirements of the position.
